Bill, without that ability I cannot help you setup samba. Please
before continuing... and here I'm talking days and weeks from now.
You really need to do some reading and experimenting with linux.

Just the basic stuff. Basic commands. How to use basic editors.

Vim has a tutorial as does emacs. There are other simpler ones. I'm
not sure what is available on a stock install but I think `gedit' might
be.

Maybe kwrite...

Before you can become a network guru or even semi-competent at setting
up file servers etc. You have to learn some basics.

At the level you are currently, I don't think I can help you with samba
without endangering your system due to mistaken commands or some other
mess that will make it unusable.

Please forget about setting up servers for a while as you will almost
certainly loose some data or possibly damage files on other machines
too.

There are many many linux tutorials on line, many many books for
beginners etc etc. You'll need to spend some time with them.
We all have had to at some point.
