Have you checked the BIOS to see if that has any temperature sensors?
Yes I have. The temps and voltages look fine, even right after the
server shuts down, like when I boot it up afterwards.
You could -- carefully! -- try touching the heatsink to see how hot that
gets. If it gets too hot to touch, something's wrong. (Hint: touch it
occasionally while it's running -- it will be cold just after
power-on...) As a bonus, you'll get to watch the fans spinning (and make
sure they *are* spinning).
The fan is spinning and the heat sink is room temp.
Be sure to take reasonable anti-static steps.
Hmmm....

Intermittent problems are costly to trace. I feel for you.

When the machine shuts down. Does it just freeze or does it quit fully?

Does the machine run better with the covers off?

I am suspecting a poor power supply.

Make sure things are clean.

I would remove all connected devices (cards. memory and cables) and
reconnect them. Also check all the jumpers to make sure that they are
on properly.

Try running the machine with no network connection and in a different
location.

FWIW, I had a machine that would shut down randomly (new machine) and
while testing, I tapped the processor board and it quit totally. Never
did restart.

What did you tap it with, a sledgehammer?
I just had to go for it, that smart remark, I just couldn't resist it.

Sorry
Jim
