It's been years since I attempted to print to specific locations. I used to do that back on my Amiga, but when I changed prunters, then OSs, the driver's changed behaviours. e.g. When I knock something up in a design program, and say that I want a 3 by 4 cm rectangle, 5 by 6 cm down from the top of the page. I mean that! An object that size, in that position. Not a scaled down object (by some unknown factor), within the (inconsistent and unspecified) printing boundaries of the page. Printing video labels was always a major pain, involving test prints and lost of wasted paper, and expensive sticky labels. Eventually I gave up and went back to a manual typewriter. Then when DVDs came out, clients all got /the white album/, because printing on a disc was a nightmare I didn't even want to start. And printing to a page still has that problem, that although I can specify absolute parameters in my programs, the printer driver has other ideas. Such as scaling down my A4 content to within the printing boundaries of the page, even though my content already was within the printing boundaries. And getting offsets wrong. How hard is it to print to a LaserJet 4? The printer's ancient, there can't be much that's not known about it by now. Of all the printers, I'd expect that one to "just work." -- [tim@localhost ~]$ uname -r 2.6.27.25-78.2.56.fc9.i686 Don't send private replies to my address, the mailbox is ignored.
