Ok, the log was very informative. As I suspected, you are running the vesa
driver. While it does work, vesa is  standard catch-all driver for any generic
video card. As such, its capabilities are fairly limited, and you want to use
the radeon driver instead.

Second, I see that you have an /etc/X11/xorg.conf  file that X server is using.
The settings in this file are very important, because it controls how X should
work.

This is also the file you need to edit in order to activate the radeon driver
and get a dual-monitor system (hopefully). Attach it and post it here, and
then I'll tell you exactly what and how to modify in it.

I would have asked for it before if I knew you had one. By default this file
does not exist and X autoconfigures itself, so I assumed you didn't have it...
