problems with nautilus after install

I just re-installed F12 on one of my systems.  After installing updates and other packages when I login the desktop icons (Trash, Computer, etc) don't show up.  When I try to logout I get a popup about the file manager not responding.  When I do an strace on nautilus I see:

[pgaltieri@jackstraw ~]$ strace -f -p 2045
Process 2045 attached - interrupt to quit
ppoll([{fd=28, events=POLLERR|POLLHUP|POLLNVAL}, {fd=29, events=POLLIN|POLLPRI|POLLERR|POLLHUP|POLLNVAL}], 2, {0, 53598118}, NULL, 8) = 0 (Timeout)

On my other system running F12 I see:

Anybody else see this?  When I logged in after the initial install it worked fine.

I originally thought this was related to having installed the kmod-nvidia driver incorrectly, but I haven't installed the nvidia driver.

Any help is appreciated.  I'm hoping not to have to re-install.
