There are a lot of things which are python based.. yum and firstboot are just the tip of the iceberg. A Fedora system without python will be to most people be highly dysfunctional. Honestly, the fact that firstboot failed saved you lots of headaches trying to use that system on a day to day basis. It would have sucked far worse if started trying to use the system and kept running into applications and tools which failed to even start because python was missing.
