Dave Ihnat: > Frankly, I don't like any of the DSL modem/firewall/wireless units. > Remember the old Unix mantra--do one thing, do it well. Me either. My DSL modem is a modem/router. I prefer that to having a plethora of boxes, and I'd rather have it log on, than have to have some other device authenticate and then route/switch. My wireless is a separate box, though. I'm still not thrilled about wireless security. And it's nice to be able to simply turn it off when there's no need for any wireless (no reconfiguring of wireless options on a three-in-one device), and without affecting any other aspect of the network. They each have their own firewall features, such as they are, and so do all the computers. Though I'm of the mind that you configure services properly, not rely on a firewall to stand in the way of remotely exploiting some vulnerability you left open. -- [tim@localhost ~]$ uname -r 2.6.27.9-73.fc9.i686 Don't send private replies to my address, the mailbox is ignored.
