I don't know if this will be what is affecting you, but for a while my firewall was causing something similar to that. I have a hardware firewall in my router, so I just turned off the one in the computer and things began working again. I removed some of the restrictions and kept trying it hoping to make things better, but had no joy. Now I still have the firewall disabled, and SELinux on permissive, but since I am no longer getting SELinux messages, I will try it back on later next week, after the Christmas rush is over.
