Dedication pays off yet again. Way to go. I think I have a similar problem installing Ubuntu 7.10 on an older machine. It gets to the same place and then cannot find or use the partition it just made. I have Fedora 8 on that machine and have never sorted out why not the Ubuntu due to lack of time for that project.
