Still if you have a window maximized, wouldn't you need to get it out of the way before you can click on the desktop? Anyhow Alt-F2 is the default shortcut for the run command so I figured I could wait till someone said it didn't work on their computer to tell them how to fire up kcontrol, select keyboard shortcuts, and assign a global shortcut key that they like to the run command...
