I know. I prefer to install - and format the partitions. I have a

A suggestion -- next time you install, put /home on its own partition, and
put all of your data there. Then, next time you reinstall, make sure not to
format that partition.

I have /home on its own partition. I just figure that by formatting
the /home partition when I install a Fedora Core distribution it
cleans everything up e.g. any fragmented areas, and lets me have a
clean slate.

2. Install mplayer from livna.

I have mplayer installed. mplayer won't play the avi file either.

Do you have the right codec installed? See another recent thread on this.

Here is the output from running mplayer:

It can be a bug in the MPlayer code _or_ in your drivers _or_ in your
gcc version. If you think it's MPlayer's fault, please read
DOCS/HTML/en/bugreports.html and follow the instructions there. We can't and won't help unless you provide this information when reporting a possible bug.

I don't see an error about a missing codec. I don't know what the
aspect, X11 error, and the Xlib messages mean.
