First it gets by the part where it wants delete for bios, then control-s
for raid utility.
Then it gives a long list of devices. It stops. Grub doesn't seem to come
up at all.
A long list of devices. I suppose this is your BIOS still running.
I'd guess you don't have a valid MBR, perhaps nothing written to it
at all. Do you have your rescue CDROM? Try booting from that, and
hex dumping your MBR. Also, can you provide us with what fdisk -l
has to say?
The sad truth is, I don't know how to dump the hex MBR. If someone tells me
how, I will do it.
the fdisk -l has multi screens full of information except I think you want
me to tell you that all devices except md0 and md1 have a * showing that
they are bootable.
How do I make a grub floppy?
http://www.gnu.org/software/grub/grub-faq.en.html#q4
I made a floppy and When I boot the floppy clicks and makes a tiny grind,
so it is trying, but sadly, the device listing in the bios stays on the
screen with no error message. Here is the menu.lst on the floppy. It was
originally copied from the offending machine using the rescu cd and I then
following the instructions in the link to make a floppy which worked except
that when it reached the quit, it said file not found. I copied the grub
directory to the root of the floppy, so the flopy has the contents of the
grub directory in its root. Should I have created a grub directory on the
floppy and copied the files into it? Its the only thing I can think of. Here
is menu.lst
# grub.conf generated by anaconda
#
# Note that you do not have to rerun grub after making changes to this file
# NOTICE: You have a /boot partition. This means that
# all kernel and initrd paths are relative to /boot/, eg.

# kernel /vmlinuz-version ro root=/dev/md0
# initrd /initrd-version.img
#boot=/dev/sda
default=0
timeout=5
splashimage=(hd0,0)/grub/splash.xpm.gz

initrd /initrd-2.6.11-1.1369_FC4smp.img

This presumes you can boot somewhere. You need somthing you
can boot before you can create a boot floppy. I presume you
are using some computer to access the mail list. Perhaps
you can use that one to make the boot floppy.
I copied the contents of the grub directory to the floppy using the
offending machine with rescue cd and I then ran the instructions from the
link using my Debian machine. I am using a Windows thinkpad for email. No
shortage of machines, I still have 2 thinkpads, a windows server and my sons
machine. Maintenance is a big job around here, but I need to create a Fedora
server, which is what I am trying to do.

This message made from 100% recycled bits.
You have found the bank of Larn.
I can explain it for you, but I can't understand it for you.
I speak only for myself, and I am unanimous in that!
