Hi

Pretty simple. Continue getting updates from Fedora Legacy till Fedora Core 5 is released.

Take your fingers out of you ears; I alread said that's not what I want to do.

Ok, but isn't that a little bit of a harsh way to say it? I think that
Rahul has used a very even tone so far. If I may ask, why do you have
an aversion to FL? I have been using FL with my machine for FC2 since
it was declared "stale" and have been very satisfied. It's not hard
to set up for updates from there (I use "yum"), and the people are
very nice and helpful.

It seemed to me that Rahul was being particularly obtuse, and does not recognise that the Fedora Project's service forces people into undesireable choices. It makes me wonder whether he properly understands "support."

It doesn't provide as good a service as, with just a little more effort, it could.

Thats your personal choice. If you choose to refuse updates from FL, that a project issue.

The issue is that the project doesn't provide quite the service some of its users think it ought.

I have better thinks to do than make pointless changes to my computer systems.

Jo and I (and a lot of others) switched from RH back when RH announced its changed arrangements, and the commencement of the Fedora project because neither RH not FC provided what we wanted.

Fedora Core 3 was supported by 1 year and 2 months. Thats far more than previous release Red Hat Linux not even counting the updates from FL.

Well, this is another topic, I think. In some parts, Red Hat is
considered notorious for churn. Trying to justify passing FC3 off
by referring to previous track record is *ahem* somewhat weak, IMO.

We're asking just for a teensy extension to the support offered by FP. Instead of 13 months for FC3, maybe 14 (FC5+1 say, instead of FC5-1).

Present you detailed rationale to fedora-devel list then.

Seems like a reasonable course of action.

OTOH I am a user (and a supporter), but not a developer, and the level of support is a user concern.
