-- odd but running 'pilot-xfer -L -p /tmp/pilot' now does not connect.
I still have /tmp/pilot with the following:
crw-------  1 lance uucp 188, 1 Nov  8 14:47 /tmp/pilot

and get that same error in /messages:
Nov  8 15:54:45 vader kernel: visor ttyUSB1: visor_write -
usb_submit_urb(write bulk) failed with status = -19
