Interesting. I guess this decision is in part dependent on your end-use. I 
keep a modem for one reason - I need to talk to an old DEC Alpha doc 
management system that is only accessible via dial-up. My cheaper solutions 
are perfectly adequate for that. If you need more robust solutions for much 
more robust end-use, I can see your point.
