I've since thought to run system-config-display and rather than having "Unkown Monitor" I changed it to "LCD Panel 1024x768" and it wrote another xorg.conf file: http://kold.homelinux.com/m30x/xorg.conf.new I can't test it until to night as I did all this remotely on the machine at home.
