What version of Linux would be the best for me?
Try RedHat 9 first, since you're already somewhat familiar with RedHat via Fedora Core.
you might also take a look at Mandrake Linux 10.0. Its very newbie friendly and a good distro to learn on and be introduced to Linux. What makes Mandrake such a nice distro for new folks to learn on is the fact that its not pointed specifically at desktop users, but includes all the functionality for servers as well as desktop. Many, if not all of the configuration tools that were once part of the Redhat distro are still within Mandrake, albeit some have morphed or matured into Mandrake specific config tools whereas others are still the same good old config tools that RedHat long ago. ( 8.0 ) for some reason abandoned.
