(I'm not sure that you're answering the question that the original poster asked, but...) This isn't necessarily true. There are a number of places that a user name can be "hidden" in an e-mail header (for example, "delivered to ... for username"). Fetchmail can be configured to pick up on almost any of them. For example, I used to get list e-mail through my Fedora account [1] and mail would come with this header: Received: from punt-3.mail.demon.net by mailstore for fedora@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx id 1CD7rs-0003q3-Cl; and Fetchmail will happily (with a bit of prompting) work out that it's for fedora@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx James. [1] I've currently switched to having inbound Fedora mail coming through Gmail: I like keeping an archive, but I'm worried about blowing Demon's mail quotas if I don't download e-mail while I'm away. -- E-mail address: james | The Inquirer was set up by Mike Magee (ticker: DODGY), @westexe.demon.co.uk | who co-founded well-known IT site The Register seven | years ago after countless years editing and managing | all manner of things which could be Aardvark Today and | Fish Farming Monthly but weren't. -- The Inquirer
