Basically, you can say / in Linux is the same as C: in windows.
The difference between windows and UNIX/Linux is the use of
file systems and the mounting (usage) of those file systems.
Windows does not allow you to have a separate file system
(hard disk partition) mounted within the existing C: drive.

This is actually not even slightly true, since Windows 2000 (and possibly NT), one has been able to mount partitions to sub foulders.
Allowing you to have

C:\My Documets\ -> hda
C:\Windows -> hdb
C:\Program Files -> hdc

The above is also incredibly easy to do using the GUI tools (not to say it isn't with linux!).

Windows does not allow you to add another disk as say C:/windows
where C: is a completely different partition.

Yes it does :)

Looks like it isn't just the Windows croud that spreads fud ;)

I stand corrected, shows just how much I know and use Windows. :-)
