Is there any test people would recommend me > to start out with? What do you do with the machine? What are the processor-intensive tasks? Do you ever run more than one such task at the same time? Is it possible to measure one or more of them? For example, if you enjoy watching DVDs whilst ripping and encoding CDs and compiling the latest version of mldonkey, don't tell the list, because you're taking on some pretty powerful organisations there. ;-) But you might try timing how long it takes for the software to compile or for the music to be encoded, with or without the DVD in the background. Historically, the "standard" test has been to compile the Linux kernel, on the basis that Linux people do that more often than they do anything else... (If you do try compiling stuff, please look into the effects of make -j, which is how you control the number of compiler processes at any one time). Have fun!
