My next plan of attack is to swap my ethernet cards out for two brand
new ones, run a memory test with a boot CD, remove all USB in favor of
PS/2, and if nothing else works, switch motherboards. If anyone has been
having similar problems (especially someone with a similar hardware
config as mine) please let me know.
FC2, dual opteron, MSI k8t master-FAR motherboard, USB mouse/kybd with
KVM switch.
Hmmm... Dual Opteron...
Are you running a 64 bit kernel? <insert version>
Are you running a 32 bit kernel? <insert version>
Are you running a SMP kernel? <insert version>
Are you running a non FC2 distribution driver? <insert version>
For the sake of diagnosing the problem and perhaps stability you might
setup to run single processor. Disable the second processor
and run a stock single processor version of the kernel.
Since you are running KVM you might also take the KVM out of the loop
by adding a dedicated keyboard and mouse. With X over ssh on a local
network I hardly use my KVM except to boot.
The lack of symptoms smells like a multi processor lock
problem to me. These can be painful to diagnose.
Did you also try the "noapic" boot option? That fixes a heck of a lot
of SMP issues for Athlon, Athlon64 and Opterons.
