Si no puedes hacer una instalación en modo texto tecleando: ---------- linux text ---------- cuando cuando recien arrancas la PC con tu disco de instalación. Ya despues de acabar la instalación puedes desde la consola editar XF86Config de acuerdo a tu monitor.
