Glad to hear that :)

Be sure both temporary directories have chmod 1777 - the sticky bit set
is important!

$ ls -ld /var/tmp/ /tmp/
drwxrwxrwt  18 root root 16384 25. Apr 15:54 /tmp/
drwxrwxrwt   4 root root  4096 24. Apr 19:28 /var/tmp/

Wrong set /tmp or /var/tmp permissions are often the cause for strange
errors.

Do you use MySQL 4 packages and not those coming with Fedora Core 1?
Then that may be possible, but would be a very bad behaviour of such an
RPM.
