I haven't been following this thread, so I don't know if this has already been covered - but here's what I do:

IGNORE_CC_MISMATCH=1 ./NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-4496-pkg2.run

found the info in /var/log/nvidia-installer.log

It's slightly OT, but that doesn't seem to work for me. I still get the
message that I'm using a different compiler than the one used for the
kernel. did you really manage to compile it that way?
