Ok, I just have one of the not working systems next to me. I boot from
CD1, at the prompt just press enter, skip the mediacheck.
After /sbin/loader, it switches to fb-mode (at least I think so because
the letters look different then).
Then:
Running anaconda...
Probing for video card: NVIDIA GeForce 2 MX 8generic)
Probing for monitor type: MACROTRON
Probing for mouse type: Generic - 2 Button Mouse (serial)
Attempting to start native X server
Waiting for X server to start...log located in /tmp/X.log
1...2...3...4...5.... X server started successfully.

(the screen goes black and i get the standard X-mouse cursor, after a
second or so I fall back to text mode)

XIO: fatal IO error 104 (Connection reset by peer) on X server ":1.0"
after 0 requests (0 known processed) with 0 events remaining.
install exited abnormally

(then termination and kill signals, disabling swap, unmounting
filesystems, you may safely reboot)

Anybody got a hint for me?
