Hi,
I just installed a fresh FC1. The question I have is that my dvdrw drive is recognised as /dev/cdrom0 in my /etc/fstab and there is no /dev/dvd. I have another cdrw drive recognised as /dev/cdrom1.
What should I do to make the system recognise a dvd drive?
IMHO, you don't need to do anything special. A month ago, my neighbour lent me his new DVD drive [PLEXTOR DVD-WRITER PX-708A/SW]. I simply installed in in place of my CDRW (/dev/hdc) [TEAC CD-W516EB]. I was able to burn, erase, and play DVD/ DVD-RW discs using the new drive, using K3b.
FWIW, my Secondary Slave (/dev/hdd) [PIONEER DVD 116/2/KBXCN] could be used to play DVD movies, while I was burning DVD R/ RW discs in the Plextor drive. My machine is an Athlon 1.0 Gb, with an nVidia (32Mb) video card, and 512 Mb system memory.
This is with Fedora Core 1 ("Yarrow") and the 2.4 kernel. I surmise that with the 2.6 kernel (which I am yet to install), performance would be even faster.
HTH & cheers,
Elton Woo ;-)
