That said, I HIGHLY recommend the low end HP printers. A few months ago, I purchased the HP3420 (for the same price as that of *one* Lexmark colour cartridge!) I have it connected to a USB hub, and not only does it print fast with linux (...Fedora Core), it has a very small footprint, compared to the boxy Lexmark, so it sits nicely in a corner of my desk. :-) HP printers work with linux. The HP3420 cost me CAD $49 (a Lexmark colour cartridge costs CAD $60!) Both HP cartridges add up to <CAD$75.(Compare to Lexmark, which is almost CAD$90 for both). Don't be deceived by the fact that my particular model prints a mere 600 or 1200 DPI: I had *excellent* results when I decided to do a few prints on photo-type paper. Note: Unlike most other manufacturer's products, HP ones do not require a separate or special colour cartridge to print photographs. ... another plus, in my book. I've also had an Epson printer before, but that one DRANK ink like a thirsty vampire would imbibe blood. I give the HP full marks for price, quality, speed, and economy! You can bet your life that the next printer (when I decide to upgrade to a multi-featured or more expensive model) WILL be an HP product.
