Liberation or Corefonts?

Hi,

I'm trying to find some better fonts for my monitor/video card
combination. Are the liberation fonts the same as the corefonts, found
at http://corefonts.sourceforge.net/? It seems it is geared towards an
older fedora release, as it references chkfontpath, which no longer
exists.

I have the liberation fonts already installed:

# rpm -qva|grep -i liberation
liberation-serif-fonts-1.06.0.20100721-1.fc13.noarch
liberation-sans-fonts-1.06.0.20100721-1.fc13.noarch
liberation-fonts-common-1.06.0.20100721-1.fc13.noarch
liberation-mono-fonts-1.06.0.20100721-1.fc13.noarch

Are they a substitute for the Microsoft fonts?

My fonts, as I currently have them installed at least, are blurry and
not very well-defined. I've tried to change the appearance of them in
System->Pref->Fonts, but they still just don't look right in all
applications.

Thanks,
Alex
