file I need to work on? It looks "simpler" than I expected but I am
admonished not to "customize" it manually?
Yeap, that's the file. And no, if you don't use system-config-firewall (I'm not aware of any other rh based gui tool that can configure iptables) you don't need to worry about manually changing it.
