Thanks for the advice, but I know that - even though I'm a windows user :-) I wasn't logged in into the GUI as root, because this is blocked in Fedora 11 by default. I just had a console window running, which was logged in as root (su root). And after compiling and installing the vnc server, I forgot to login (the console window) as normal user before running the vncserver. That's the reason. Normally I never work as root - not even on Windows! But thanks! -----Original Message----- From: fedora-list-bounces@xxxxxxxxxx [mailto:fedora-list-bounces@xxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Robert L Cochran Sent: Sunday, August 09, 2009 9:48 PM To: Community assistance, encouragement, and advice for using Fedora. Subject: Re: TightVNC Server Phillip -- never routinely work as the root user! That is a grave mistake. You should do all your work as an ordinary user. Don't stay logged in as root habitually. I only use root to update the software on my machine, or to change a few settings. In the context of a workday, I only need to do that once or twice daily at most. If there are no updates available for a given day then I don't switch user to root at all. Bob On 08/09/2009 02:39 PM, Philip Seeger wrote: > OK, I found out what I did wrong.
