I think that's more assumption than fact, the part about resistance to sales.

At this point, I don't think any of us should be making assumptions
about Negroponte's intentions, for all we know, he always hoped to get
money from Microsoft.

Actually, one of the declared objectives was that all the software be
free and open

Negroponte claims that Sugar will be put on Windows

I do not think this was ever a concern for Microsoft. XP is going out
of support soon enough.
