Top is a continuously-reporting command that will give you an ongoing snapshot of what processes are running on your computer and how much CPU power they are using. In its default configuration (when you just run top with no extra parameters) the process at the top of the list will be the one that's using the most CPU power at that moment. Load top and sit and watch it at the exact moment that your computer is running slow. See what processes tend to be at the top of the list. They may come and go and change a bit, but you should see a pattern or a tendency for certain processes to be at the top of the list. Whatever is at or near the top of the list and using the largest percentage of CPU power is your culprit. -- MELVILLE THEATRE ~ Melville Sask ~ http://www.melvilletheatre.com
