Thus I take issue with your contention, "there is no reason anyone
should have to do any of the things Karl has done" - there clearly is a
reason, and it has been known for many years now. The reason is that
there are repos that have packages which are incompatible with each
And why does someone need to use more than one repo to install vlc?
They need the standard Fedora repos plus ONE of the non-Fedora repos
if they want to play encrypted DVDs.
And even then some of the 3rd party repos may replace some core
libraries where some have a policy of not doing that.
Or think they do?

Consider who is having the problem. He has a history of doing things
the hard way. In doing so, he creates problems for himself that few
others run into.
And yet in the bazillion messages about what he was doing wrong, no one
provided a link to a place that explained the right way.
