As squid.conf is kept in /etc/squid and not in /etc, checking the directory
in /etc won't tell you anything useful.

If /etc/squid/squid.conf.rpmnew exists and has a newer date
than /etc/squid/squid.conf, then you can compare those files to see what
options have changed in the newer version of squid. You can then make any
adjustments necessary in /etc/squid/squid.conf to make it work again.

For example, you may discover that option "foo" is now called option "bar". Or
perhaps "foo" now requires a ",1" after it. And so on.

The most likely cause of failure, especially if squid refuses to start after an
update, is that one of the options in /etc/squid/squid.conf has changed and
needs to be fixed.
