Have you read the paragraph above? After an "upgrade install from FC6 > FC7 at the release of FC7" you would not have a metakit package which requires python(abi) = 2.4, ... which is one of the problems quoted in your original mail. It is explained above. Perhaps your upgrade was incomplete/interrupted/whatever. But that still doesn't explain why your "yum update" attempt failed and got access to 87 additional packages a few days later. Hence your conclusions wrt updates are wrong.
