This is likely to be my one and only post on this series of SELinux threads that Karl has started, but Karl, I do hope you have resolved the problem all the same.

After a big snip, yes I found that it was SELinux using other software that caused the problem. Along the way I learned how to recover from another similar problem so I now have SELinux active in it's highest protection mode on this computer. So far so good.
