It's surely not as nice as if they just kept everything open, but i'm
still not convinced that the changes in the new iPod's are designed to
stop other software from writing to the iPod as much as it is to
ensure that 1 iPod goes with 1 iTunes.

It didn't take long at all for the changes to be reverse engineered.
It won't be long until the software for linux can write to the new
iPod's as seemlessly as before. :)
