You're not building a car, you're working with software, and this is
just a part of it.

No, software is even easier to mass-produce than a car. When someone gets it right, everyone can use it.

If you were building hardware, and you *had* to create tools or molds to
do the job, you would do so, or you would arrange for someone else to do
so.  That's part of that process.

It's not a question of whether you can create your own custom solution for every problem, but whether you can afford to.

So you don't think there will ever be a Linux distribution that is usable and reliable as a desktop without having to customize and re-test everything before letting anyone use it?

Windows isn't what I want, but I need a practical replacement.
