Jerome: Please reply at the bottom of my reply - it you get into 
that habit on this list, you will find more folks willing to 
help. As someone has suggested, your keyboard is probably not 
working because you haven't enabled 'legacy USB support' in your 
BIOS - find that setting and see if that helps. We have some 
machines around here where even that doesn't help, and I have to 
use a PS2 keyboard for certain operations particularly in BIOS, 
or early bootup sequences. Almost certainly, this has nothing to 
do with Linux --- but, note, I said 'almost'

I don't think that that is the case because the keyboard that I am currently
using is not a usb keyboard. I use a ps/2 keyboard so I don't think that
that is the problem. As for the top posting issue thank you for bringing it
to my attention. The email program I currently use automatically formats
replies above, however I have now remedied the problem.
