Your window manager isn't running.

Try typing "twm" or "fvwm" or any of a few other window managers. They won't
be what you are used to, but at least you will have window borders and titles
etc and be able to move stuff around while you figure out what went wrong
with the update.

| Upgrading gdm - 1:2.18.0-14.fc7.i386
| warning: /etc/gdm/custom.conf created as /etc/gdm/custom.conf.rpmnew
| I/O error : Attempt to load network entity http://www.oasis-open.org/docbook/xml/4.1.2/docbookx.dtd
| I/O error : Attempt to load network entity http://www.oasis-open.org/docbook/xml/4.1.2/docbookx.dtd
| /usr/share/gnome/help/gdm/fr/gdm.xml:27: parser error : Entity 'eacute' not defined
|     <title>Manuel de configuration de l'&eacute;cran de connexion V&manrevision;

Does your network work, and can you see the internet? Does:

  wget -O - http://www.oasis-open.org/docbook/xml/4.1.2/docbookx.dtd

fetch an XML document?

| /usr/share/gnome/help/gdm/fr/legal.xml:2: parser error : Entity 'rsquo' not defined
| <para>L&rsquo;utilisateur est libre de copier, distribuer et/ou modifie

I'm presuming these are all a side effect of difficulties with the
docbook DTD file above.

They should also be irrelevant, I think.

What other errors are there?

Does "yum update" offer to update anything at the moment?
