Hello.
I'm about to install F7 on my main computer, and I'd like advice on what directories I should split off of / (i.e. put on its own partition).

I already have /home split off, and I'd like to have the webbrowser cache split off too (makes backups quicker).

I recenlty read that /usr could/should also be split off - opinions? I should note that I'm the only user, and I don't plan on adding much of anything (i.e. software). Would this make sense in my case?

Any other suggestions?

I am in the process of doing this and I plan on setting up

/
/boot
/tmp
/swap
/home
/var
/usr

home is the only LVM and this is to allow me to add to the space without trying to figure out who should get what. As more and more digital files get put on the machine, it makes it harder to add space and say XXGig to here and YYgig to there.

I am looking at encryption for /tmp /swap /var and /home. Mainly for the laptop in case it is stolen.

This is the breakdown on my work machine.

Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/hda7 9.5G 586M 8.5G 7% /
/dev/hda1 99M 15M 80M 16% /boot
/dev/hda2 190G 178G 2.1G 99% /export/home
/dev/hda9 22G 173M 21G 1% /tmp
/dev/hda5 19G 8.3G 9.8G 46% /usr
/dev/hda6 19G 916M 18G 5% /var

Some partitions are larger than normal due to some of my work. I like to put some things in tmp to make sure they get removed from time to time.

It isn't uncommon to have 20 gig of tmp files generated for a project that I am working with.
