I tried different good harddrives and also get this
error message from dmesg

What is the problem?

hda: drive_cmd: status=0x51 { DriveReady SeekComplete
Error }
hda: drive_cmd: error=0x04 { DriveStatusError }
ide: failed opcode was: 0xb0

Usually indicates a bad disc, but if you've got a bad power supply or a
bad cable, you could have similar induced errors. I don't know whether
incorrect jumpering of the drives (master/slave/etc) might cause error
messages like that, too.

I've never seen incorrect jumpering produce these messages. Since the OP has already tried with different 'good' hard drives, I would advise changing the cable.
