In the interest of scientific experimentation, try pulliing the network cable
out and boot 'er up and see what it says. That will give you an indication of
whether the problem in "internal" or "external".
Internal - at least pulling the network wire had no effect.
I also tried using a different kernel, the oldest one I still have is
2.6.19-1.2911.6.5.fc6. The kernel that I usually use is 2.6.20-1.2933?
