RE: Read-only file system

Error is in SCSI - the exact time I tried to use "make all" to
unpack/compile a distribution.

Output of /var/log/messages is:

I take it you had a grep piped in there between dmesg and wc?
Otherwise you're simply counting the lines in dmesg's output.  And the
drive you are having problems with is a SCSI drive, or USB/Firewire
connected drive?  If not then this error would not relate to that
drive.

As for the cause, nice to know that Linux will do that on a failing
drive.
