the standard way of setting a hostname
1. isssue hostname <newhostname> at the cli
2. edit the /etc/hosts file
3. edit the /etc/sysconfig/network file

usually i just restart networking after this and that's it.

I am a shell person so cannot vouch for the GUI tool...they're just
there to 'hide' what is really going on behind the scene, you are far
better off knowing how to control the proper way
