I know. I prefer to install - and format the partitions. I have a
lot to backup before I install so I don't install as often as I
should as you can see.

I have mplayer installed. mplayer won't play the avi file either.

How did you determine that this is an avi and not something else with
an avi extension? Where did you get this file?

Lonni,

I downloaded the file from a website.

$ file 2005-SS-FP.V01.2005-04-12.HDV_low.avi
2005-SS-FP.V01.2005-04-12.HDV_low.avi: RIFF (little-endian) data, AVI, 1280 x 720, 25.00 fps, video: XviD, audio: MPEG-1 Layer 3 (mono, 48000 Hz)

Here is the output from running mplayer on the file:

  It can be a bug in the MPlayer code _or_ in your drivers _or_ in your
  gcc version. If you think it's MPlayer's fault, please read
DOCS/HTML/en/bugreports.html and follow the instructions there. We can't and won't help unless you provide this information when reporting a possible bug.
