Happens on both my boxen.
I've googled for it but only found a couple of references in July that
don't seem to have a resolution...anyone got any ideas?
It's broken. There's a bugzilla entry for it....

IIRC look in "ls /var/lock/subsys/" for yum or yum-updatesd if so delete
and rerun yum.
I actually did all this...removing any lock files and checking /var/run
for any yum instances and still got the same error...
