I copied various FC5 /root files to my new install of FC6 now the
desktop sends up little message boxes when the mouse pointer brushes
over a file icon in my Desktop that says... 

Could not find mime type
application/octet-stream

I'm sure I broke something with the older root files and darned if I can
find it. My bad. I hate when I do that. <grins> Ric
