Like I said, it works with some and not with others.  What memory card
controller do you have ?  (/sbin/lspci)

For me:
02:01.1 FLASH memory: ENE Technology Inc CB710 Memory Card Reader
Controller

I read this:
ENE controllers fail to send command timeout interrupts causing large
delays when inserting a card.
