Regardless of how you write the date (numbers or words), it's common to
say something like "December the 11th, 2004," so I can see some
reasoning behind it.  Though I still think it's a peculiar way to write
a date like 12/11/04, you've got no clues.

(Currently testing FC5, but still running FC4, if that's important.)
